EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

We partner with parents to educate children.

Parents and caregivers are essential members of any successful learning community. Through our Personalized Education Plan Assessment and Review process, we’re able to curate learning experiences that support and align with the personal interests, cultural values, and civic and academic goals of our member families.

Civic education is an essential curriculum.

Civics is as important to literacy as reading, writing and arithmetic. A theoretical understanding of civics and its practical applications in the world is essential to the development of a capable, accountable and caring contributor to global society.

Successful learning programs are transdisciplinary.

Students develop an understanding of their unique talents and interests when they’re exposed to practical tools, culturally-relevant experiences and skill-producing resources. In addition to subject area experts teaching across all academic and artistic disciplines, we provide students a diverse and evolving range of experiences through Applied Sage Seminars. Business leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives and influencers engage our scholarpreneurs by sharing time and expertise in various fields. A successful educational program must include the arts, so we curate learning experiences that provide rigor and structure, but take into account the creative needs of each student.

Learning is a unique, self-directed process.

Children learn best when facilitators of learning understand their individual learning styles and provide opportunities for practical application of skills and knowledge acquired. Additionally, the acquisition of new knowledge is retained when the material is relevant and purposeful to the student. Materials used for instruction must be diverse. Students must be active participants in and contributors to the learning process. Self-efficacy, personal discipline, adaptability and acceptance of the concept of “progress over perfection” must be encouraged in the learning environment.

2025 -2026 Open Enrollment & Tuition

Independent. Tuition‑Based. Mission‑Driven.

SAGE Civic Institute is an independent school, not publicly funded, not subsidized. We operate primarily through tuition so we can remain agile and accountable to the families we serve.

Built for Families Seeking Real Alternatives

Our program is designed for families who value partnership, active involvement and a learning approach that reaches beyond conventional classrooms. We welcome especially those committed to uplifting BIPOC learners and communities.

Age‑Plus‑Services Pricing

Tuition is tailored to each student’s stage and support plan:

  • Age band – Lower elementary, upper elementary/middle grades, high schoolers

  • Personalized services – Options such as transportation, behavior or clinical support, college-readiness, or meal plan

This structure lets us align costs with the time, expertise and resources your child actually receives.

Affordability Commitment

We price responsibly to keep doors open for BIPOC families, while sustaining high‑quality staffing and materials. Scholarship funds from grants and donations supplement- but never fully underwrite- our budget, ensuring we can continue serving every enrolled student without compromise.

Tuition Transparency

During the admissions process, you’ll receive a clear tuition rate based on your child’s age and Personalized Education Plan Assessment™ (PEPA), along with payment‑plan options.

Curriculum

Science

At SAGE Civic Institute, students explore the natural world through hands-on research and experimentation in fields like quantum physics, chemistry, biology, and astronomy. Our interdisciplinary approach encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed exploration, with a focus on integrating logic, ethics, and mathematics into every aspect of scientific study.

Arts

SAGE Civic Institute’s arts program fosters creativity and self-expression through literature, dance, visual arts, and foreign languages. Students explore diverse cultures and perspectives while developing critical skills in analysis, communication, and artistic creation. Our curriculum encourages personal and cultural exploration, equipping students to express themselves in meaningful ways.

History

History is the study of people, places, and events that have shaped the world. At SAGE Civic Institute, students explore the geography, culture, economics, and politics behind significant global phenomena, with a particular emphasis on the experiences and contributions of the African diaspora. This approach fosters a deeper appreciation of the interconnectedness between nations. By analyzing historical records and documentation, students learn to connect past events to present-day realities, develop solutions for the future, and draw conclusions grounded in fact and research.

Government

Civic education is the cornerstone of SAGE Civic Institute's curriculum. Our Civics program emphasizes the importance of self-awareness as the foundation for meaningful engagement in society. Students begin by understanding their role within their family and local community, then expand their knowledge to how local, state, and federal governments are structured and function. Our goal is to cultivate civic literacy, empowering students to become informed, active participants in their communities and beyond.

ECONOMICS & MATHEMATICS

At SAGE Civic Institute, students build financial literacy and a wealth mindset through lessons in saving, budgeting, investing, and financial decision-making. In mathematics, they develop problem-solving skills and explore the cultural and historical relevance of math in everyday life, gaining both practical and theoretical knowledge.

Education Beyond Traditional Schooling

At SAGE Civic Institute, we believe that true literacy begins with a strong foundation in social studies. Our curriculum focuses on restoring the essential pillars of Science, Arts, History, Government, and Economics—areas often neglected but vital to a meaningful education.

  • Personalized Learning Plans tailored to each student's needs.

  • Civic Literacy to foster responsible, informed citizens.

  • Applied Learning Experiences that spark curiosity and drive real-world engagement.

  • A Private, Innovative Learning Platform that combines education with social development, keeping students both challenged and connected.

I found some old essays written by my 17 year old self in the 12th grade classroom of the BEST English teacher I’ve ever had! Not only did she push me to be a better writer but also a better thinker/philosopher. Thank you, Arden Santana, you made a huge impact on many.”

Raynoldo R. - Former Student

“At SĀHGE Academy we learn how to type, how to use common sense, African history and dance, and how to be ourselves and follow our own path. We also learn SAHGE! (Science-Art-History-Government-Economics)”

San - Student

“At SĀHGE Academy, I get to learn freely without the pressure of anyone telling us WHAT to learn and HOW to learn it! We can help each other evolve and learn more in our subjects! So tired of the public school system, spend a day at SAHGE and make your choice.”
